NETWORK + II Discussion Forum Module 5
Discuss a situation where you feel a WAN would be the best connectivity solution. What are at least 3 major considerations in this decision?
the functional purpose of the entire network, the logical to physical implementation needed to determine a cost effective and high performance solution for the customer/organization needs are each significant factors in the type of network we create. Connectivity methods can make use of Cable Internet like TV infrastructure to create contention groups, a leased line for fixed bandwidth services on a dedicated line, ICS which allows a group to share a single Internet connection, Satellite connections for remote areas, and BPL using existing infrastructure in a less secure environment. Transmission methods include ATM, Frame Relay, DSL, ISDN, the T-carrier system, SONET and SDH, DWDM, OCx, satellite transmission and various WWAN technologies. Switching technologies such as circuit, packet, cell, virtual, and MPLS also are specific to different scenarios.
