"sudo /etc/init/d/apache2 restart" is the command that we use to restart the apache server
"sudo gedit /var/www/trythis.php" does something too
"su root"
"chmod -R 777 /var/www"
"cd /var/www"
"ls -l"
"ls -s"

the exit command will take you out of superuser as root
exit the terminal
